Lady Gaga-Marry The Night

So i thought for my first entry i should go with a song that is getting a lot of attention right now. Newly released as the fifth single from her new album, Born This Way, Marry The Night is and has been getting MAJOR attention from fans and critics worldwide. Originally planned to be the lead single off the album, she decided to "let the fans decide when the album comes out". Which i found to be very interesting and, in the end, worked in her favor seeing as she is now getting the maximum radio play possible for each single. The music video just ended filming and started production late last night and (hopefully) will be released sometime before the month is over. But i think most of her fans can agree......this song is one of her best ever. This song is the definition of "Art".

starting out with soft, angelic bell sounding chords and progressing into a grinding techno-synth chorus, the song has commonly been described as "peak whitney houston-esque" and i think that's an incredibly accurate description. her vocals on this track are so powerful that you can truly feel her pain that she had when writing this song. I feel her main message throughout this song (yes, there are many) was being able to let all of your insecurities go. Being able to take everything that has you down: boys, rent, your job, family problems and throw them all away. "I'm gunna marry the night. Im not gunna cry anymore." Lady Gaga is not private about her insecurities and commonly says that she still feels like the underdog in the music industry and still feels like that loser in high school. which......come on.....WE ALL DO. Insecurities stick with people for years. I think ultimately what inspired this song for Lady Gaga was that fear of being a loser, and being able to recognize that fear and letting it go.

I find it very interesting when she says, "Ill go down to the bar. But i wont cry anymore." Anyone else??  When people are upset, what do we do? We go to the bar, we get shitfaced and then we end up crying about what originally made us upset. Am i right? I find it so smart that she took that experience which everyone can relate to and twisted it around. yeah im gunna go get drunk. But im gunna suck it up and not cry. gunna have a good time and "kiss the bartender".

Obviously this song is also about her love for New York City. "cruise down the street that i love, in my fishnet gloves, i'm a sinner." "leave nothing on these streets to explore". However i feel the ultimate goal was trying to write a song that everyone could feel for and connect too but at the same time have it be completely her. And this song is that. I think when the general public listens to this song they'll hear an awesome driving song that they might hear in the club once or twice. Fans will dive a little bit deeper and think about what went into writing the song. But people who actually tear apart lyrics and understand this album as a whole will go so much deeper than that and see that this song was taken from the depths of her soul and in her moment of weakness. Congratulations on an AMAZING single Gaga.
